Curtorim Gym hold Maina

Curtorim Gymkhana came from behind to hold Maina Sports Club 1-1 in GFA’s Second Division League at Curtorim ground on Monday. Curtorim were trailing 0-1 at half time.
Maina started off on a positive note and forged ahead when hardworking striker Roy Das punished the rival keeper Prashant Damaskar off a through pass from Agnelo D’Costa in the 17th minute.
Stung by the early setback, Curtorim piled on the pressure and tested the rival keeper with some well measured sorties but yielded no results.
Maina had scoring chances in the opening session but strikers Roy Das and Sidney Colaco were guilty of muffing scoring chances.
Crossing over, Curtorim who were desperate for an equaliser, went all out and came close in neutralising the lead but striker Melwyn Fernandes shot wide from handshaking distance.
Curtorim’s efforts were rewarded in the 75th minute when Agnelo Colaco sent a floater inside the rival penalty box and striker Tony Dias beautifully nodded in much to the cheers of the Curtorim supporters.
The equaliser boosted the morale of Curtorim and mounted pressure thereafter but Maina defenders also rose to the occasion and kept all the Curtorim attackers at bay.
With this draw, Curtorim collected seven points from three matches while Maina collected their first points from two matches.
Curtorim coach, Alex Dias was pleased with the way his team played. “We had been playing consistently and I’m happy with the overall performance. We have to keep up this momentum against Santa Cruz Society of Potimaddo,” Dias concluded.
