Alvito Miranda steals limelight

MARGAO: A triple strike by striker Alvito Miranda helped Laxmi Prasad Sports Club to demolish Salcete Football Club 3-1 in a GFA First Division league match at Cansualim Sports Complex, Thursday. Laxmi Prasad led 1-0 at the lemon break.
Laxmi Prasad dominated the proceedings and forged ahead in the 30th minute when striker Alvito slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Stunned by the setback, Salcete Club tried best to come back into the game with striker Imamsab making concentrated efforts to nullify the lead but his colleagues failed to provide him with adequate support.
In the second half, Laxmi Prasad continued to enjoy the lion’s share of exchanges and their efforts materialized when Alvito beat the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot in the 62nd minute to register his brace.
Down 0-2, Salcete Club regrouped quickly and intensified their attacks. Imamsab reduced the deficit in the 71st minute.
Laxmi Prasad scored the match-winner through Alvito in the 76th minute.
With this win, Laxmi Prasad have collected seven points from three matches while Salcete suffered their second defeat and have one point from three matches.
At 3MTR ground, Navelim, an 83rd minute goal by defender Alleluia Fernandes enabled Curtorim Gymkhana to overcome Corps of Signals 1-0 in another First Division match. There was no score at half time.
Corps of Signals could not take the advantage of their domination in the first half. They had a couple of scoring opportunities but strikers Ibrahim, Lalming Saha, Nagha and Pankaj Gurkha frittered away gilt- edged chances.
Crossing over, Curtorim put up a better performance and troubled the rival defence with constant raids. The all-important goal came in the 83rd minute when defender Alleluia header deflected off a rival defender and bulged the net.
With this win, Curtorim took their tally to seven points from three matches while Corps of Signals suffered their first reverse from the same number of encounters and have four points from three matches.
