RAIA: Curtorim Gymkhana defeated CDJ de Ribandar 6-5 via the tie-breaker to clinch 46th Custodio Memorial trophy in the final of the 46th Custodio memorial football tournament organised by Raia Sporting football tournament played at Raia panchyat ground, on Saturday.
Curtorim Gymkhana had the first chance of the match through Mario Mascarenhas but the rival defender, tackled his move in the third minute. Curtorim had the best chance but James Fernandes shot wide in the 6th minute.
Later, James tried a solo effort but the defenders of CDJ Ribandar blocked the formers move in the tenth minute.
Curtorim Gymkhana netted the first goal of the match through Joybert Almeida placement shot in the 17th minute and doubled the lead through James Fernandes’ header in the 36th minute.
As the match progressed Shashank Naik pulled a goal back for Ribandar in the 39th minute and levelled through Minesh Kunkolkar of Ribandar in the 65th minute.
In the resultant tie-breaker Curtorim Gymkhana netted through Joywin Carneiro, Anthony Cardozo, Nevile Fernandes and Christo Hilario while Shaik Saliya, Deepesh Sawant and Salu Santos scored for CDJ de Ribandar.
Sudin N Verenkar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of former CM of Goa Francisco C Sardinha, Dr Babita Angle Prabhudesai and other dignitaries.
