CUNCOLIM: Relegation battling Curtorim Gymkhana earned a hard fought point with a 1-1 draw against Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in the Goa Pro League match, at Cuncolim ground, on Tuesday. The goals came in the first session. The teams played attacking football right from the start and Cavelossim had the first crack on goal in the eighth minute but Joshua Vaz shot over from an ideal position after being set up by Lavino Fernandes. Thereafter, it was Curtorim Gymkhana who moved forward with swift passing only for striker Xavier Dias to shoot off target. Finally, Curtorim Gymkhana broke the deadlock at the half hour mark as Xavier finished with a deft placement after Donaldo Rocha did the spadework. Cavelossim regrouped quickly with an effort from Joshua which was eventually blocked by rival defender Allwyn Dias. After much efforts, Cavelossim striker Lavino equalized before the break. Change of ends saw Cavelossim dominating the match upfront through Mario Mascarenhas and Joshua but the rival defence stood rock solid. In the 50th minute, Marcus Fernandes of Cavelossim could have put his team ahead but shot over. Subsequently, Xavier squandered a golden opportunity in the 56th minute. At the other end, Joshua saw his shot hit the upright and the ball fell back in play.
