Dempo pip Faria

Dempo struggled as they managed a solitary goal victory over Faria Sports Management in a Kingfisher Pro League match at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Saturday.
Dempo were the overwhelming favourites against minnows Faria and as such a tall score could not be ruled out. However, they lacked sharp shooters in their ranks and in the end had to win by the skin of their teeth.
It was a dour defensive play by Faria that proved to be a stumbling block for star-studded Dempo. And, Felix Barreto must be complimented for a dour defensive play.
Dempo ought to have besn a goal up in the 10th minute, but Clifton Gonsalves’ try was too weak and moreover it landed onto the crossbar after Roberto D’silva had done the spadework.
Dempo could also blame the framework for keeping their tally low as U-20 player Shallum Pires connected a pass from Nicolau Borges onto the upright in the 17th minute.
Dempo no doubt had the better of the exchanges with Beto propping the strikers and Clifton’s header missed the target in the 31st minute.
Dempo’s lone goal came just before the break. Clifton exercised good control as Covan Lawrence sent a long pass and the former placed it past the Faria goalkeeper.
Beto was replaced by Joaquim Abranhes after the break, but the India Under-23 captain was unimpressive.
