MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club registered a thumping 6-0 win over Velsao Sports & Cultural Club in the Round three match of the GFA’s Professional league, at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday.
With Tuesday’s win, Dempo moved to six points while Velsao SCC are yet to open their account.
Dempo led 2-0 at the breather with the goals coming from Joaquim Abranches (2), Kirtikesh Gadekar, Alber Gonsalves, Beevan D’Mello and Nickson Castanha.
Both the teams were greeted with heavy downpour which made the surface clogged with water especially near the goal areas which saw Dempo’s capitalise on it to take the lead in the very seventh minute from a poor clearance by Velsao stopper back and skipper Leny Pereira and Allen Fernandes found Kirtikesh Gadekar who slammed the ball into the goal.
Before conceding the goal, Velsao had a great chance to surprise Dempo in the very first minute when U-20 Romario Da Costa shot from inside the penalty box bounced at the goal and missed the target narrowly.
Despite the ground conditions being unfavourable, Velsao kept applying pressure on their opponents and kept creating openings when in the 30th minute Charles Miranda’s shot which was travelling goal wards struck the body of Nickson Castanha and went for a corner.
Dempo nearly found the second goal in the 41st minute when Velito Cruz’s firm strike hit Velsao’s Bersal and as the ball was nearly creeping into the net it was somehow tipped over by substitute keeper Aliston who had taken the field due to a neck injury sustained by keeper Roanal Gaunkar.
From the resultant corner kick Dempo’s Alber Gonsalves and keeper Aliston both contested for the ball which dropped to skipper Joaquim Abranches who without any delay flashed it into the net to make it 2-0.
Changing ends, it was one-way traffic with Dempo completely outclassing their opponents with Joaquim Abranches getting his second goal from a header off a cross delivered into the box by Nickson to make it 3-0.
In the 65th minute substitute Beevan D’Mello cleverly put through Alber Gonsalves whose low grounder had no answer by the keeper to make it 4-0 for Dempo.
Dempo kept raiding Velsao’s goal and fired in two more goal in the last five minutes of the regulation time trough Beevan D’Mello and Nickson Castanha to round up the score sheet to 6-0.
