Don Bosco High School B emerge victorious

PANJIM: Don Bosco High School B, Panjim defeated Don Leonor Memorial High School, Porvorim by a solitary goal to emerge champions of the 9th Don Bosco-Sporting Clube de Goa U-12 7-a-side football tournament, at Don Bosco ground, Panjim, on Saturday.
Ronan found the net for the match winner against Dona Leonora to make his team Don Bosco B the e champions.  In the third place match Don Bosco A beat Sunshine Worldwide 3-2 via the tie-breaker after a goalless regulation time.
A total of 16 teams participated and played on a league cum knockout format is an annual Community Outreach cum Grassroots Football promotion event.
In the league phase,  Dona Leonor Memorial topped group A with 4 points ahead of St. Joseph Calangute A (3 pts),  Sharada Mandir ( 3 pts) and Infant Jesus Convent ( 2 pts). 
In Group B, Don Bosco A and St. Anthony’s Guirim were tied with 7 points each with Don Bosco getting the nod with a better goal difference.   St Anne’s Thivim were third with 3 points followed by Rosary High School B who failed to open their account.
Don Bosco B topped Group C with 9 points, followed by Rosary High School A with 4 points , St. Xaviers Moira  with 3 points and  St. Joseph Calangute B  with a point.
Sunshine Worldwide School made their mark topping Group D with 7 points ahead of St. Michael Anjuna (5 points), Auxilium Convent (2 points) and Santo Minguel, Taleigao (1 point). 
In the semi-finals, Don Bosco A were drawn with Don Bosco B and Dona Leonora Memorial with Sunshine Worldwide. Don Bosco B rode on a fine strike by Ronan Pereira for a place in the final.  In the other semi-final, Ismail Khan scored the winner for Dona Leonora for a 1-0 win over Sunshine Worldwide.
Jovito Lopes Acting Secretary of Goa Football Association was the chief guest and gave away the prizes along with guest of honour DYSP Anthony Monserate and Principal Fr. Avin Carvalho.
