PANJIM: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda stormed into the quarter-finals of the 43rd Bandodkar Memorial football tournament defeating United Club of Nerul 3-1 in the match played at the MPT ground, Baina-Vasco, on Wednesday.
Don Bosco Oratory went into the lead in the 7th minute after Christopher Borges converting a penalty kick. United Club of Nerul’s Avinash Pereira handled the ball in the goal area and the referee made no mistake to spot it.
In the 10th minute, Suraj Kauthankar of United Club of Nerul tried to score, however, he shot wide.
Don Bosco Oratory’s Minguel Baretto made an attempt at the rival goal in the 17th minute by taking a piercing shot but to his dismay it hit the goal post and rebounded into play.
This time, in the 23rd minute, Don Bosco Oratory’s Francis Andrade took a crisp shot into the net off a pass by Christopher Borges, taking the score to 2-0.
Boosted with two-goal cushion, Minguel Barretto and Ashley Araujo of Don Bosco Oratory in the 26th minute dribbled their way in perfect coordination towards the goal of United Club of Nerul, however, goalkeeper Siddesh Morte managed to save the attempt.
Dwayne Britto of United Club of Nerul took a curling shot towards the goal of Don Bosco Oratory in the 28th minute but the ball went wide.
United Club of Nerul reduced the margin in the 40th minute with the efforts of Sanket Jotkar from a pass by Sigmund Silveira, making it 1-2.
The second half was dominated by United Club of Nerul by keeping the ball possession mostly with them. But, however, they were unable to equalise as the strong defence of Don Bosco Oratory thwarted their moves.
In the 70th minute of the game, Don Bosco Oratory managed to squeeze in another goal with the shot taken by Jason Pinto, which was fed by Joel Camra.
Leo Rodrigues, councillor of Ward No. 9, Mormugao Municipal Council, was the chief guest and awarded Man-of-the-Match to Sanket Jotkar of United Club of Nerul.
