MAPUSA: Dream United emerged victorious after registering a 5-4 win against 5 Tomatoes via the tie-breaker to emerge champions of the All Goa 5-a- side flood light football tournament organised by United Nachi Bros, at Bom Jesus Church ground, Nachinola.
The two day open tournament was a grand success as it witnessed the participation from of 32 teams across the state.
At the end of regulation time, both the teams were locked in a goalless draw forcing the contest to be decided on penalties where Dream United proved to be better shooters.
The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and a trophy while the runners-up took home Rs. 10,000 along with a trophy. The best goalkeeper of the tournament was bagged by Soma Korgaonkar from 5 Tomatoes. While the best player award was taken away by Rupesh Patil of Dream United.
The chief guest at the final was Congress Spokesperson, Amarnath Panjikar who praised all the teams for showing good sportsmanship and teamwork which is important in all sports.
“One needs to accept defeat as well enjoy victory in the true spirit of sportsmanship. All the teams have displayed some good football. The organisers have done a fairly good job in putting together this two day tournament, he said.
