Collem police succeeded in nabbing a duo, who was allegedly involved in theft of tipper trucks and heavy vehicles from the State.
Police arrested Manoj Manikrao Hublikar and K Babu Naidu, both from Hospet-Karnataka, and recovered a tipper truck and spare parts of heavy vehicles, while some more persons are reported to be absconding.
According to police, one Shamika Vaiko Yashodan Gauns Dessai of Xeldem-Quepem in her complaint had stated that her tipper truck (GA-09-U-1608), which was parked at Shigao-Collem on July 23, went missing.
After getting a tip, Collem police sent a team to Hospet-Karnataka. While they were camping in Hospet, they noticed the missing truck on the road leading to Bijapur.
Later, they nabbed Manoj Mainkrao Hublikar (24), of Uguem-Sanguem, but a native of Hospet.
Sanguem JMFC remanded Manoj to five days police custody, which expires on Monday. He will again be produced before Sanguem JMFC on Monday for the extension of the remand.
However, during the course of interrogation, Manoj disclosed that two persons from Hospet and Goa are also involved in the theft cases of tipper trucks.
Meanwhile, a police team, which had left for Hospet, succeeded in nabbing K Babu Naik of Bellary and also recovered spare parts of heavy vehicles. He was brought to Goa on Sunday and will be produced before Sangeum JMFC on Monday.
The duo disclosed that they were engaged in theft cases of at least four heavy vehicles, mostly the mining trucks.
Police further said that the accused from Goa was still absconding.
PSI Praveen Gawas, Police Constables Parshuram Patil, Mangesh Varde, Premanand Sawant, Shankar Naik, Driver Premanand Naik were part of team that succeeded in bursting the gang. Police is investigating the case under the supervision of Collem PI Manoj Mardolkar.
