MARGAO: Fatorda Veterans got the better of Quepem Veterans 5-4 via the tie-breaker to storm into the quarter-finals of All-Goa Joao Manuel and Joseph Fernandes memorial veterans football tournament organized by Sun Moon Stars Verterans, Chandor at church ground, Chandor, Tuesday. Fatorda Veterans led 1-0 at the breather.
Fatorda Veterans held upper hand in the opening sessions and troubled the rival defence with sharp raids. They broke the deadlock midway in the opening sessions when Vincent Barbosa punished the rival defence with a neat finish.
Crossing over, Quepem Veterans put up an improved display and called the shots against the rival goal. Persistent forays paid off the dividends when Milagres Fernandes neutralized the lead.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Chandrakant Naik, Vincent Barbosa, Zaku and Socorro Furtado were on target for Fatorda Veterans while Raymond D’Souza, Florian and Arthur found the mark for Quepem Veterans.
