CANSAULIM: FC Goa edged past Ave Maria Atheletic and Walkers Club 2-1 in the GFA U-16 league match played at Cansaulim ground, on Friday.
It was FC Goa who had the first shy at the goal with FC Goa’s Aaron Dias attempting a long ranger at the rival goal however his strike was saved by the Ave Maria goalkeeper in the second minute.
Fabian D’Cunha tried a solo effort for Ave Maria in the tenth minute but Chadel Fernandes of FC Goa thwarted his move.
It took Ave Maria 17th minutes to open the account through Ashward Barretto ‘s header off a well measured cross by Gurudas Chawan.
Crossing over, Chadel Fernandes equalised for FC Goa in the 56th minute after Chandel was tackled by the rival defender inside the box and the young Gaurs were awarded with a penalty kick.
FC Goa scored the match winner through Tristen Fernandes in the 58th minute.
Refree Merwyen Tellis booked Ave Maria’s Ashford D’Silva with a red card after the defender was shown a second yellow in the 62nd minute.
Tristen Fernandes and Chadel Fernandes missed scoring opportunities for FC Goa from the rival box after both of them shot over the cross piece of Ave Maria in the 76th and 79th minutes respectiveley.
