PANJIM: FC Goa has asked for more time from the Indian Super League (ISL) Committee for signing of their chief coach for the upcoming season three of ISL pending their petition in Appeals Committee.
The ISL Regulatory Commission came down heavily on FC Goa as it announced that 15 points will be docked of the team in the upcoming third edition of ISL for their unacceptable behaviour after the final of the second edition last year at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. It has also imposed a fine of Rs 11 crore plus the two co-owners of the team Shrinivas Dempo and Dattaraj Salgaocar have been imposed long-term ban from entering the stadium during the league.
Salgaocar has been slapped with three years ban while Dempo received two years.
According to the rules and regulations of the ISL, all franchises participating in the league should sign their chief coach by July 1 but the Goan franchise has put this on hold till the ISL Appeals Committee does not announce its decision on this matter. The Indian Super League Appeals Committee is expected to deliver its verdict on July 9.
As FC Goa has put all its new signings on hold, Keenan Almeida, Pratesh Shirodkar and Debabrata Roy are the only three players who have been signed by FC Goa for the third edition of the ISL while, there are many other players whose signings have been put on hold.
Not a single foreign player has been signed for the franchise and also the decision on who will coach the team for this season has also been put on hold.
While Rs 10 crore of that fine will go to Football Sports Development Ltd (FSDL), the entity of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) which looks in the field of football and the remaining amount will have to be given to Chennaiyin FC.
In the final order by the committee, FC Goa were found in breach of ISL regulations and code of conduct for bringing disrepute to ISL, following the unfortunate incident which occurred on December 20, 2015 soon after the ISL final between FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC.
Retired High Court Justices D. A. Mehta and B. N. Mehta, former Mumbai DGP D. Sivanandan, ex-India cricketer Kiran More and sports law expert Vidhushpat Singhania were part of the commission that slapped the outfit with such a heavy punishment.
