FC Goa ‘two’ good for Pax of Nagoa

MAPUSA: FC Goa proved to be too good for Pax of Nagoa as they registered a 2-0 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Monday.
FC Goa having lost to Sesa FA and Pax of Nagoa drawn with Cortalim Villagers started earnestly with a promise to return home with a win.
After this match FC Goa have six points from four matches, while Pax of Nagoa stay on four points from four matches. FC Goa scored a goal in each session of play through the boots of Shaikh Ismail and U-21 Sitroy Carvalho.
Young Gaurs did have better of the exchanges but crosses from the wingers and a few free-kicks went in vain as the Pax of Nagoa defenders and goalkeeper timely cleared the ball to safety.
Finally in the 44th minute, a deep cross by U-21 Shawn Fernandes was brilliantly finished by overlapping left winger Shaikh Ismail into the goal 1-0.
On crossing over, Young Gaurs time and again attacked the rival citadel.
In the 57th minute, a stinging shot by U-21 Bryson Pereira was blocked by Pax of Nagoa goalkeeper and the ball rolled to Asher Rodrigues who to his team’s dismay blasted wide.
Three minutes later, Shaikh Ismail shot was smartly blocked by Pax of Nagoa custodian at the first post.
As the match progressed, Bryson’s two curling shots from outside the penalty box travelled just past the goal post.
Pax of Nagoa had just one good look at the rival goal but a cross by skipper Schubert Pereira was blocked for a corner by Young Gaurs’ defender Sitroy.
Finally in the 81st minute, Young Gaurs pumped in their second goal with Sitroy leaping high above the rival defenders to head a free-kick by Malsawmtluanga into the goal, 2-0.
A couple of minutes before the stoppage time, Young Gaurs coach Israil Gurung brought in three substitutions wherein the 93rd minute substitute Leonard Rebello saw his hot-blooded strike from outside the 6-yard box being blocked by Pax of Nagoa goalkeeper.
