PANJIM: Gaura Vaddo United defeated Maddo Vaddo 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the final of YGS Soccer Calangute inter-ward football tournament, organized by YGS Boys, Agar Vaddo, at Poriat ground, Calangute, on Monday. There was no score at the end of regulation time.
The teams tried hard to score the all-important goal and had equal number of scoring opportunities but their strikers failed to find the back of the net.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Rajkumar, Sarvanand, Pitesh, Ashish and Edilson were on target for Gaura Vaddo United while Alex, Chalston, Ashwin and Valu converted for Maddo Vaddo.
Gaura Vaddo were awarded Rs 15,000 and the winners trophy while Maddo Vaddo had to settle for Rs 12,000 and the runners trophy.
Individual prizes were awarded to First scorer of the final Alex Fernandes (Maddo Vaddo), Best goalkeeper of the final Pitesh Matkar (Gaura Vaddo United ), Best forward of the final Pankaj Shirodkar (Gaura Vaddo United ), Best defender of the final Ashwin D’Souza (Maddo Vaddo) and Best Disciplined team Porba Vaddo.
Earlier, YGS President Johnny D’Souza introduced chief guest Fr Cipriano Da Silva, parish priest of St Alex church, Calangute in the presence of Arjuna awardee Bruno Coutinho; Alex Fernandes, President of Calangute Association; Alirio Lobo, general secretary of Calangute Association; Adv. Francisco Sousa, ex-President of Calangute Association; Kabir Shirodkar, President of St Savio SC, Calangute; Prashant Korgaonkar, ex-President of St Savio SC; Savio Gonsalves, Panch of VP Calangute and Mathias D’Souza, Panch of VP Calangute.
