GCA to unveil indoor academy at Porvorim

The indoor cricket academy at Porvorim costing Rs. 3 crores is expected to be ready by August 12, according to Dayanand Narvekar, President, Goa Cricket Association.
Narvekar told presspersons at Porvorim on Sunday, that the work of the indoor pitch at Porvorim was ready and it will be inaugurated on July 12. Two more similar pitches, at Mapusa and Margao have been prepared at the cost of Rs. 20 lakh, said Narvekar.
The GCA has appointed former Ranaji cricket player Rajesh Kamat as the coach of the senior team on contract basis for two years and he will be joining from July 12. Kamat, former Karnataka coach and with IPL experience has been appointed basically because he has agreed to work continuously for 11 months, Narvekar disclosed.
Narvekar said that the the Goa Government had not handed over the land which was already acquired by them some three years ago for the international cricket stadium at Tivim. There is some hitch due to some forest area within the acquired property, he added.
The Goa government has received the No Objection Certificate from the Forest Department long back and hence there should no problem for the government to hand over the land to GCA which proposes to construct a modern cricket stadium having seating capacity of around 50,000.
Narvekar said that the GCA had decided to purchase grounds at taluka level and the target for next year was to develop five grounds by spending Rs. 2.5 crore.
Narvekar announced that the elections to select the new GCA Executive Committee will be held on Sunday, July 26 at Shatratej Hall, Porvorim. The tenure of the existing committee gets over on July 12. The accounts will be presented at the General Body Meeting to be held on July 12 in Panjim.
A committee comprising three persons, namely Adv Dilip Dabholker (chairman), Arun Gaundalker and Max Futado has been constituted to conduct the elections. The process of filing the nominations will start on July 15.
The Cricket Academy, built on the lines of National Cricket Academy, has a gymnasium, locker rooms, changing rooms for girls and boys, modern kitchen and dinning facilities, sauna and steam rooms on the ground floor. On the first floor, provision has been made for a large dormitory to accommodate 30 persons.
There are also five guest rooms and a sitting pavillion for 100 persons. On the second floor, there is a hall for conducting workshops and conferences.
