PANJIM: The GFA’s Competition Commitee was forced to have a climbdown over the organisation of the First Division League 2022-23, as a result of a meeting with the managers of the First Division Clubs at Nehru stadium, Fatorda, today.
This is a sequel to the Arbitration Tribunal matter filed by St Savio SC of Calangute, a North Zone First Division club, which came up on Monday at GFA headquaters, here. St Savio agreed to withdraw the matter on the condition that the managers’ meeting of all First Divission Clubs should be held before holding the First Divison matches, the fixtures for which were already released by GFA earlier, but subsequently, the two round fixtures were postponed.

There were heated exchanges at today’s meeting wherein the GFA President Caetano Fernandes, general secretary Lector Mascarenhas agreed that there was some lapse of not informing all the First Division teams and as such, there was an agreement that there would be three groups only – North, Ilhas, Salcete and that only one team from each group would be demoted (in all three teams overall), unlike the previous decision to relegate seven teams, which was objected in toto by the Club members.
The GFA had stated yesterday that a meeting of the Official Competition Committee with the Managers of all the First Division Clubs would be held today. And it was undertaken.
The proposal put up by the President of Clube de Sao Miguel de Taleigao, Anthony Levino Pereira was accepted as he placed a projection for three years. with demotion and relegation of two teams and also relegation of two teams from the Second Division. It emerged clear that there was a misunderstanding in not informing all the First Division Club and relying only on Salcete Division First Division Clubs.
In all 18 First Division Clubs attended the meeting. A meeting of the executive committee will be now called to rectify the decision. Prakash Desai of Cuncolim Union told President Caetano that the development of football is not about majority.
