PANJIM: Mahesh Candolkar beat Vinay Tendulkar 14-6 votes to emerge as the new president of Goa Chess Association (GCA) at the general body elections here, Sunday.
Ashesh Keni beat Sharendra Naik 14-6 to claim the post of secretary. Vishwas Pilankar beat Kishor Bandekar 14-6 for the post of treasurer.
Amog Namshikar secured 14 votes and Kishore Rama Gauns Dessai got 6 votes to be elected for the two posts of joint secretary. Sameer Naik, the third contestant, got 4 votes.
Presiding Officer Prabhakar Timble stated that the total number of voters was 24 with 21 being the total number who voted. One was an invalid vote. The total number of Taluka Associations was 12.
Meanwhile, elected president Mahesh stated: “Together we shall embark on a new journey to elevate chess in Goa and beyond. Some unfortunate disputes hindered chess activities in Goa for the past two years, but we would like to put all that behind and unite as one chess community and work hand-in-hand with all 12 Taluka Associations. We need to take chess forward and shall focus on grassroots to identity talent.”
Mahesh pleaded that the past be put behind and that everyone must rally together to carve a new chapter in Goan chess history.
