Goa Diocesan Priests soccer team celebrated Vocation Sunday on a triumphant note with an exciting 6-1 victory over Sao Jose de Areal Veterans team in a football match organised by Sao Jose de Areal parish, at Areal panchayat grounds, Padribhat.
With Goa Priests star striker Fr George Ratos scoring two consecutive goals in the first half, they were leading 2 – 0 at half time.
In the second half, Areal with Bento Andrew and Inacio Viegas mounting pressure, managed to reduce the margin through Francis Fernandes. Goa Diocesan Priest goalkeeper Fr Benjamin Victoria brought off some excellent saves and prevented the Veterans from causing any more damage.
The dying minutes of the second half saw two consecutive goals again by Fr George Ratos and one each from Fr Cristo Pinto and Fr Jorge Fernandes. The defence of Goa Diocesan Priests was well guarded by Fr Isidorio Fernandes and Fr Peter Raj
Fr Agnelo Rodrigues, speaking on the occasion, called on the youth to foster priestly vocations. Fr Eucharistic was also present.
The Goa Diocesan Priests soccer team will play their next exhibition match against Holy Spirit Parish Youth on Sunday, September 27.
