Goa to take on Jharkhand for title

MARGAO: Host Goa are on a roll as they thrashed Kerala 4-1 to romp into the final of the 36th National sub-junior Coca Cola football championship for the under-15 Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy, at Holy Trinity ground, Benaulim, on Saturday. Goa led 1-0 at the breather.

Goa surged ahead in the 13th minute through Aarron Baretto.
Post resumption, Goadoubled their lead in the 54th minute when Nikil Sandip Guring intelligently flicked the ball into the net as Kerala goalkeeper Sachin Suresh came out his position.
Goa next goal came when substitute Malcolm Gonsalves relayed the ball to Aaron Alvares, who unleashed a snap shot that found the roof of the net.
Boris drove the last nail into the rival coffin in the 70th minute.
Kerala scored the consolation goal in the injury time when Muhmmed Ansari’s shot deflected off Kimmran Fernandes and eluded the rival goalkeeper.
Host Goa will meet Jharkhand in the final on January 27 at the same venue.
“We are delighted with this win and all praise goes to the boys for their excellent performance,” said coach Remy.
“We are looking forward to the final and I am really happy with the boys responded to the challenge,” Colaco added.
“I congratulate Goa on the win,” said Kerala coach Purushothaman.
In another semi-final, at Government School play ground, Cuncolim, Jharkhand blanked Chandigarh 2-0. The final is on Tuesday.
