Goa U-19 demolished Uttar Pradesh 7-1 in Dr B.C Roy trophy U-19 Junior Nationals, at East Bengal ground, Kolkata on Sunday.
After two matches, Goa are currently leading the group with six points from two wins. Punjab are hot on their heel in second place with four points. Assam are third with one point and Uttar Pradesh have lost both matches.
A brace each from Pandhari Chopdekar, Brandon Fernandes and Myron Fernandes helped Goa to a convincing win. The Goa team also benefitted from an own goal scored by Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking to Herald, Goa U-19 manager Mario Aguiar said, “I am very pleased with the boys’ performance today. It was very convincing. I feel we also can do well against Punjab, who are a very physical team.”
Goa only need a draw in their final match against Punjab on Tuesday to qualify for the second stage.
