MAPUSA: Goa Velha Sports Club and Sesa Football Academy played a goalless draw in GFA’s Goa Professional League, round five football match, at Duler Stadium, here, on Saturday.
It was a vital point for Goa Velha who are lagging in the bottom of the standings. They collected their second point and move above Calangute Association in the ninth spot. Sesa are now on five points.
In terms of creativity, neither teams could establish their superiority with the ball mostly being restricted to the midfield.
Sesa did have an upper hand in the opening session but their opponents did well to catch the rhythm.
Jaison Vaz tested Goa Velha keeper Siddesh Morje early in the seventh minute with a stiff grounder but the custodian did well to thwart the effort for an abortive flag-kick. They had a glorious chance when Rayman Fernandes’ free-kick found Perryson Rebello but the medio headed wide before the half hour mark.
At the other end, Suraj Hadkonkar set up Oilex Oliveira through but the striker could not shoot past Sesa keeper Thochkom Singh in a one-to-one situation.
Just before the break, Jaison’s fierce right-footer was blocked by keeper Siddhesh and fell in the path of Alber Gonsalves, who nodded in but the latter was flagged off-side.
The match became lively at the start of the second session when Jaison moved dangerously inside the Goa Velha territory. The under-20 skilfully dribbled pasty a couple of rival defenders but was unfortunate to see his effort hit the crossbar.
Sesa continued to dictate terms and created another opening trough Perryson’s dangerous low cross but substitute Stephen Colaco blasted over in the 80th minute.
