AMBELIM: Goa Velha Sports Club entered the semi-finals of the Lourdes Soccer, organised by Ambelim Sports Club, following their comfortable 2-0 win over Arlem Youth Association Raia, at Ambelim ground, on Thursday.
Goa Velha dominated from the word go and had the first shot at goal in the 19th minute, but Yogesh Thapa’s shot was swallowed by the Raia custodian.
Goa Velha once again came close when Ashok played Supun at goal, but the latter shot over the bar with just the keeper at his mercy.
In the 25th minute, Sharan Adkonkar gave Goa Velha SC the lead when he lobbed the ball over an advancing Raia goalkeeper.
Sheehan and Klin excelled for Raia in the midfield while Joseph and Sarfarz were rock solid for Goa Velha SC defence. Goa Velha SC led 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, Ashok doubled the account for Goa Velha SC when he headed in a Franky’s cross, 2-0.
At the other end, Raia team came close to scoring when Eldon tried his luck from a distance but his effort sailed over the bar.
Arlem Youth Association’s Sweden had an opportunity to reduce the deficit but his feeble attempt was easily collected by Goa Velha SC keeper.
Goa Velha SC almost scored their third from a counter attack but Ashok’s curl shot hit the cross bar and went out of play.
Goa Velha SC meet Mandopa Sporting Club in the semi-finals on February 9.
