MAPUSA: Host Saligao United bowed out of the Saligao United Soccer Cup after going down to Goa Velha Sports Club by a 4-5 margin via tie-breaker, at Candolim ground, on Thursday.
Goa Velha SC started off on an attacking note where in the very 2nd minute of play Elvis Lopes viciously moved into the Saligao United danger zone, however his fierce grounder was brilliantly kept away by keeper Krishna Vengurlekar.
At the other end, Goa Velha SC keeper Agnelo D’Silva also rose up to the task when he came with a diving save to fist away Trevor Dias’s curling free-kick.
As none of the teams could break the deadlock at the end of regulation time the tie-breaker was implemented where Newton Pereira, Francis Pires, Elvis Lopes, Chatur Naik and Joseph Rodrigues scored for Goa Velha SC while Sachin Chopdekar, Jayesh Chopdekar, Clyde Valdes and Siddesh Kesarkar were on target for Saligao United.
