PANJIM: “Like father – like daughter.” How aptly this applies to Penny Rebello, daughter of former Goa’s top international football defender Anthony Rebello of Curtorim, formerly of Salgaocars, who did duty on the lines in a football match in Kuwait.
Penny, a PE teacher in Don Bosco High School in Kuwait, after having done her graduation (B P Ed) from Don Bosco College in Panjim, has her father’s football genes, having played for her school, college and Goa University in several disciplines and was the member of the Goa volleyball squad at the 2nd Lusofonia Games in Lisbon in 2009.
It was on March 1 that Penny did duty as assistant referee at one-day soccer extravaganza for veterans under Kuwait Indian Football Federation and she did it with aplomb. There was a feeling that she could have been the first female in Kuwait to do the job on the lines in a football tournament.
As a member of Indian Football Referees Association in Kuwait, Penny is well versed in soccer laws and is keen to qualify as a referee.
