PANJIM: The Goa girl’s team emerged runners-up at the 4th Agape Cup All India football championship organised by Sports Coalition of India by the John Paul II Foundation for Sports and the Catholic Diocese of Indore.
The Goan side drew with Tamil Nadu 0-0 but fell short of one goal difference in the round robin league matches, at the St. Paul’s School ground, Indore, recently.
The Goa team defeated Madhya Pradesh 2-0 and Maharashtra 4-0 and drew with Tamil Nadu girls team 0-0. Tamil Nadu were declared champions on better goal difference.
The mens team claimed the third position as they lost by a solitary goal against MP in the semi-final. In the group matches they drew against Kerala 0-0, beat Delhi 2-1 and lost to Tamil Nadu 1-0 who ultimately were the winner’s of the men event.
Tamil Nadu had won the first edition of the All India football championship that was started in Goa by the John Paul II Foundation for Sports and Kerala were the winner’s of the second and third edition of the event which is held annually.
