PANJIM: Goa’s Anura Prabhu Desai, Geno Pharmaceuticals Ltd brand ambassador, won gold in women’s doubles with Karishma Wadkar from Maharashtra at the All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament, held at Atul, Gujarat, on Thursday.
The pair registered an emphatic 21-15, 21-14 straight sets win over the second seeded pair of Kuhoo Garg and Ningshi Block Hazarika in the final.
Anura became first Goan player to clinch a gold medal in senior category at the National level.
Earlier, the young Ponda girl created history by securing a bronze medal in singles.
In women’s singles, Anura lost against Riya Mookerjee 21-19, 21-14 in the semi-final before defeating Revati Devastale 21-15, 18-21, 21-17 in the quarter-finals.
