PANJIM: Dempo Sports Club Youth Development side collected another scalp on their way to the GFA U-14 title as they scored ten past Sporting Clube De Goa, at Don Bosco ground, Panjim, on Friday.
In a must win game for the Young Eagles, thesidetook to the pitch knowing that they needed to collect two wins from their two remaining games if they were to be crowned champions of Goa.
Dempo could have had a goal in the opening minute of the game, after Dalwin Coelho put Swavel Furtado through, but the young winger misjudged the bounce and the chance went begging.
Topan Mirz finally open the goal scoring in the third minute before adding a second of the evening moments later, his goals a reflection of the amount of time the Dempo midfielders were finding themselves with.
The Eagles were up by five goals in a matter of minutes, Reniel D’Mello,Swavel Furtado and Dalwin Coelho all got their names on the score sheet after threatening to find the back of the net in the first 30 minutes of play.
In between the 43rd and 45th minutes, Topan Mirz, slotted two goals to see the Eagles take a comfortable seven-goal lead into the break.
In the second half, the boys carried off from they had left, substitute Shavir Mohammed scored from his first touch after coming on for Topan Mirz. He doubled his tally soon after with the Eagles breaking on the counter after sustaining some Oranje pressure.
With the game drawing to a close, the 10th goal seemed almost unlikely to be scored, after striker Ashish Kumar’s run from his own half saw him swerve past two defenders only to be denied once by the goalkeeper and once by the post.
However, it was Ashish himself who finally managed to get the Eagles’ tenth goal of the evening proving once and for all that perseverance does pay off.
Meanwhile, at Astro Turf ground, Fatorda, Salgaocar Football Club eased past Churchill Brothers SC 3-0.
Vismay Mane, Salvador Gama and Ashony Gomes scored a goal each for the winning side.
