CURCHOREM: Guardian Angel Higher Secondary School, Curchorem blanked St. Anne’s Institute, Canacona 4-0 to book their place in the semi-finals of U-17 Subroto Mukherjee football tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at AstroTurf ground, Fatorda, Margao on Tuesday.
Guardian Angel opened their account in the 10th minute through a powerful shot taken by striker Milton Fernandes.
Stung by the setback, St. Anne’s players regrouped themselves and tried their level best to level the score but Guardian Angel defended their lead and managed to increase the tally through striker Ashbel Dias in the 22nd minute of the first half.
Down by two goals, St. Anne continued their efforts after changing ends and went all out in search of the reducer and the opposition team continued to dominate till the end and blocked all the efforts of St. Anne.
St. Anne did not get any relief despite their continued efforts to inflate the tally as opponent team resisted all their moves and succeeded in increasing their tally through Richard Fernandes in the 43rd minute.
St. Anne lost their winning hopes after Milton hammered the final nail into the rival coffin in the 47th minute to seal St. Anne’s fate.
Guardian Angel will now meet Fr. Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Verna in the semi-finals on August 22.
