AMBELIM: Guardian Angel SC defeated Churchill Brothers SC 2-1 in the Goa Pro League encounter, at Ambelim ground, on Saturday.
Lavino Fernandes scored a brace for the winners while Chesterpaul Lyngdoh pulled one back for the Red Machines
Just two minutes into the game, Churchill Brothers should have found the ball at the back of the Guardian Angel nets through Pankaj Sona left-footer but the rival keeper Ram Sroop saved it brilliantly.
Churchill created moves upfront through Nicholas Fernandes and Pankaj Sona while Guardian Angel SC Lavino and Snedden Rodrigues combined well to sneak past rival defence on several occasion.
In the 6th minute, Lavino set-up Nicholas in the box but the latter’s shot deflected off Churchill’s Basant Rai and went out of the play.
The Red Machines had their best chance in the 20th minute of play when Nicholas long range shot missed the target by whiskers. There were no scores in the first half.
The second half began on an attacking note with both teams pressing hard on the forefront.

Pankaj Sona close range shot with a smart save before thwarting Lyngdoh’s long range shot earlier.
In the 53rd minute, a well-combined move by Perryson Rebello and Lavino Fernandes move was foiled by Churchill’s Suraj in the goal area.
Guardian Angel broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute through Lavino.
Churchill’s keeper Ricardo Cardozo smartly saved Nicholas long range shot but the custodian could only manage to send to ball to Lavino who slammed to the back of the nets to make it, 1-0.
In the 81st minute, the Curchorem team had the best chance to double the lead but Ricardo once again came to his team’s rescue denying Anthony Pereira off Nicholas’ corner.
In the 86th minute, Guardian Angel doubled the account through Lavino’s powerful header off Brian Faria Cross.
Churchill brothers pulled a goal back through Chesterpaul Lyngdoh in the 88th minute.
