MAPUSA: Guardian Angel Sports Club showed great resilience to get the better of ten men Vasco Sport Club 2-1 in the GFA’s Professional league match, at Duler stadium, here, on Friday.
In a keen battle with both the teams looking for their first win in the league were tied 1-1 at half time with Musa Bamba and Benzu Celemente scoring for Guardian Angel after Lago Dogbo Bei had put Vasco ahead.
Guardian Angel after their heavy defeat in the first match to Churchill Bros looked more organised and had decent opening chances but could not make it count and were a goal down in the 25th minute.
Foreign signing recruit Lago Dogbo Bei playing in his first match for Vasco beat keeper Pratheesh Veettil with a clinical finish after being put through by Sheldon Pereira to give his side the lead.
The goal spurred Guardian Angel where it needed the intervention of Vasco keeper Sanju to bring up two saves in quick succession to stop Benzu Clemente and Beneston’s shots from finding the net.
Guardian Angel thought they had the equaliser but keeper Sanju somehow managed to get his hands to tip out Beneston`s goal bound header from entering the net from a dangerous ball delivered by Aslon inside the penalty box.
Guardian finally tasted success in the 42nd minute through their foreign import Musa Bamba whose strong grounder had no answer to the keeper Sanju after being put through by Aslon.
Crossing ends, Vasco lost their goalkeeper Sanju who was brilliant under the bar with a back injury while collecting a cross from Guardian’s Musah Bamba.
It got even worst for Vasco in the 72nd minute when Micky Vaz was given the marching orders for a dangerous lunge on Leny Fernandes.
Guardian Angel capitalised on the one-man advantage to get their second goal which turned out the match winner by Benzu Clemente whose header found the back of the net from a well taken corner kick by substitute Nicholas Rodrigues to make it 2-1.
Angel’s Musah Bamba who was outstanding nearly got his second goal but his rasping shot which was struck with venom was well stopped by substitute keeper Amit Biswas.
Vasco nearly made Guardian Angel pay for their missed chances when Ivory Coast Lago Bei shot missed the target by a whisker in the closing minutes.
