FATORDA: Holy Spirit Institute, Margao blanked Bethany Convent High School St Jose de Areal 3-0 to move into the semi-finals of the U-14 Suborto Mukerjee Cup (Salcette Zone) football tournament, at artifical turf, Fatorda, on Tuesday.
Holy Spirit Institute Margao and Bethany Convent High School in the first five minutes displayed attacking football, but it was Holy Spirit who had the best move in the 7th minute as Vellington Fernandes floated the ball to Steve Carvalho inside Bethany box but a timely tackle by Mistle Cardozo of Bethany denied the goal scoring opportunity to the rival side.
Domnic Carvalho of Bethany too threw his hat in the rival box in the 10th minute but to his dismay the rival goalkeeper foiled his move.
As the match progressed, Harsh Patre opened the account for Holy Spirit in the 18th minute and doubled the lead in the next minute to make it 2-0 for Holy Spirit.
Richard Carvalho, further increased the lead to for Holy Spirit in the 46th minute, 3-0.
In at another well contested match Fr Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna edged past Loyola High School 1-0.
Both teams dished out a brand of soccer with end to end counter attacking moves but it was Fr Agnel Multipurpose High School after desperate attempts scored the match winner through Kevin Kalsokar, in the dying minutes of the match scored to take his team into the semi-finals.
