MAPUSA: Bengaluru 5’s marquee player Paul Scholes, former English footballer who played his entire professional career for Manchester United and is currently co-owner of Salford City, said he was excited when approached to play for Premier Futsal in India.
As it is a very exciting game, I enjoyed playing with other marquee, international and local players, he informed at a press briefing.
“This is for the first time I am coming to India and playing with the young talents here and I was totally spellbound and would love to participate in the next edition of Premier Futsal in January, all excited Scholes said.
“Futsal is totally a different game as it is very small in duration and you need to be very quick. Even the goal posts are very small and you need to produce quick skills and fantastic goals.”
“It is similar to Twenty20 cricket. In India both football and futsal are also given duo importance. As I haven’t touched the ball for last three years and after getting an opportunity for re-playing the game, it was somewhat difficult to tackle the ball with more excitement,” he mentioned.
“I have seen the young Indian footballers play, they are very talented and are open to learning and I am very happy there are many Indian players who have scored in the tournament. It’s pleasing to see these players enjoying themselves.”
“But the Indian players need to be motivated and polish their skills. Like cricket and other sports, football is equally important sport. Develop talented players like MS Dhoni, who inspires a lot of teenagers, we need to get more of them. I hope football attracts more and more youngsters. I see a good football as well as futsal teams ahead from India very soon,” he concluded.
