Joint meet would have helped in smooth handover: Messias

Messias launches a scathing attack on the new GFA president, says Elvis Gomes showed lack of interest in the premier skills programme, calls him over burdened Govt officer

PANJIM: Savio Messias, former GFA executive committee member, said that if the first meeting of the executive committee was a joint one it would have helped in a smooth handover rather than a scruffy one.
Messias was responding to a statement made by GFA President Elvis Gomes that he was unaware about the British Council proposal wherein they had offered to train 20 coaches and 12 referees through the Premier Skills programme in Trivandrum later this year.
“In the past the first meeting of the new Executive Committee was always a joint meeting with the outgoing committee but unfortunately the new President failed to observe this tradition”, said Messias.
Launching a scathing attack on the new GFA president, he alleged that as the senior vice-president of the old committee, Elvis Gomes showed lack of interest in Premier Skill programme, as he did not attend the meetings held on February 12 and also boycotted the meeting with GFDC the next day. He also questioned as to why Elvis Gomes did not include this item in the agenda of the first Executive committee meeting held on August 1.
The programme was discussed at various meetings of the GFA, where Elvis Gomes was present as a vice president, Messias added.
He said that when the letter was sent to the GFA Secretary along with the registration forms by British Council on June 25 he was in Brazil. Mr Messias said that the general secretary was informed of the July 31 deadline for submitting forms.
He also questioned as to why the new president is yet to invite applications for filling important posts at GFA as Gen Secretary had submitted his resignation in June.
