VERNA: Marina English High School, Verna, squeeze past Saviour of The World High School, Loutolim by a solitary goal in the 2nd All Goa U-17 inter-school football tournament organised by Verna Sports Club at Verna Church ground, on Friday.
At half time, the score was goalless draw. The all-important goal was scored in the second half by Joydan Colaco.
In the second match, Fr Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna, downed The Rosary High School, Cujira-Bambolim, 2-0. Fr Agnel Multipurpose HS scored the first goal by their hardworking striker Elsan D’Souza with a drift placement giving no chance to The Rosary HS goalkeeper.
In the second half, Fr Agnel Multipurpose HS mounted more pressure and scored through the boots of Elsan D’Souza.
Earlier, Fr Agnel High School, Pillar, scrapped past St Anthony High School, Majorda, 9-8 via tie-breaker to move into the next round.
Musab Shaikh scored for Fr Agnel HS in the first half. St Anthony HS fought hard in the second half and equalised through Shawn Fernandes. In the tie-breaker, Fr Agnel HS proved to be the better shooters.
Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda, shocked strong contenders Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal, via tie-breaker 4-3.
At the end of regulation time, both teams were held to a goalless draw. In the resultant tie-breaker, Our Lady of Rosary High School proved to be the better shooters.
