Karnataka and Chattisgarh made it to the finals of 6th Junior National Pantanque Championship for boys at Bordem ground, here on Thursday.
The current form of patanque originated in 1907 in France. There are metal balls called a ‘boule’ and a ‘jack’ made of wood. The task is to throw the ball closest to the jack than the opponent’s. Patanque could be played in triples, doubles or even singles.
In the boys category, Karnataka defeated Madhya Pradesh while Chattisgarh defeated Delhi.
Yesterday, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said that government will extend all necessary support for the promotion of traditional patanque in Goa. He was speaking after inaugurating the championships organized by Goa Petanque Sports Association and Goa Boules Sports Association under the auspices of Petanque and Boules Sports Federation of India.
Rajesh Patnekar, MLA and president of Goa Petanque and Goa Boules Sports Association in his welcome address highlighted the objective of the competition and said, it was to develop and promote petanque in Goa as well as to prepare for the future competitions.
Girishchandra Parmar, president, Petanque Federation of India also spoke. Ashok Khambekar, vice-president, Petanque Federation of India, Bharat Chauvan, general secretary, Petanque Federation of India, Maganbail Dulera, general secretary, Boules Federation of India and Pradeep Sakhare, joint secretary, Petanque Federation of India were present.
