Kings school excel in skating

The Margao-based school bagged six medals; Mukti excelled and clinched two gold medals in the time trial and road race; Tahira won a gold medal in 500m skating race and a silver medal in the 300m time trials

PANJIM: The Kings School, Salcete, bagged a whooping six medals including three gold, one silver and two at the recently concluded CBSE West Zone Skating championship held at Rajasthan.
Mukti Verlecar excelled and bagged two gold medals in the time trial and the road race. Tahira Rodrigues won a gold medal in 500m skating race and a silver medal in the 300m time trials.
Lynn Rebello and Soham Pawar won a bronze medal each in the road race and time trial respectively. Tahira and Mukti will now represent The Kings School at the prestigious CBSE National Skating Championships to be held, in Haryana later in November.
The Kings School, affiliated to the CBSE sent in a significant contingent of 20 students in age group of six to 13 years. They showed tremendous commitment, zeal, speed, skill and skating style at the event which included over 1400 participants.
Others in the contingent included Akhil Bavally, Meghana Mayannavar, Muhammed Beg, Necholi Kamal, Aditya Patil, Vinayak Madkaikar, Lira Misquita, Lee Fernandes, Noah Velho, Lakshya Sharma, Atharv Gaunkar, Vedant Vernekar, Rudra Dalal, Naomi Velho, Aditya More and Nishita Hegu. 
The team was led by renowned skating coach Amit Sharma, famed Indian team captain for Roller Inline Skating Hockey. He represented India at 16 World Championships and 11 Asian Championships. His Capricorn Roller Skating Club has tied up with The Kings School.
Sharma along with coaches he has trained – Hemant and Karan have been vigorously training the students for over two years in the build up to the National level skating championships.
