MAPUSA: Sesa Football Academy’s wait for a top-notch title has been long and agonizing where they finally tasted success which was delivered by Coach Charles Dias who was entrusted the job of the head coach in 2018 after playing assistant to Ajay Acharya for the last five years.
“There were times I kept asking questions about the team, but those moments were few and far between. I knew for sure that a title triumph was round the corner. It’s been a long wait, but certainly worth it,” Charles told Herald minutes after Sesa FA defeated Dempo Juniors by a solitary goal at Sirsaim ground.
“I am both relieved and pleased. The First Division League title hopefully is just the start as now our team enters the big stage to Goa Professional League next season Charles said as they will rub shoulders against heavyweights of Goan football like Dempo, Salgaocar, Sporting Clube, Churchill Bros and Goan FC.
Charles who represented the U-19 and U-21 Nationals was a hardworking midfielder during his playing days and has instilled the same attributes in this team who work tirelessly on and off the ball and respect each other which has been the key for their success in this years league .
Charles went on to say that this was his fourth club to get promotion in his coaching career.
First, Orlim Sports Club, winners of GFA’s U-18 followed by Wilfred Leisure Sports Club from second division to first division and then to Goa Pro League. Guardian Angel Sports Club from second division to first division and now Sesa FA’s promotion from First Division to the Goa Pro league.
“It was a good experience and challenge for him as the First Division League started on March 31. We took one match at a time with lots of hard work from players and staff and don’t want to single out any players who played pivotal role in the team’s success as it was teamwork, good stability throughout the league and consistency that enabled them to clinch the title and be promoted to the coming GPL.”
“I thank Vedanta Sesa management, the technical staff, coaches, players and the Almighty God for this successful season,” concluded Charles.
