The teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and huge crowds enjoy the lively match. The all-important goal came in the 20th minute after striker Milagres Fernandes took advantage of a goal mouth meele and punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Stung by the setback, Chandor Club launched a flurry of attacks at the rival goal but Maina Sports Club goalkeeper Custodio Peixoto came up with good saves to deny Chandor strikers Mario Fernandes and Selwyn Fernandes.
After taking the lead, Maina Sports Club did not have a single shot for remaining part of the first half.
In the second half, Chandor Club were much more composed. Maina Sports Club goalkeeper Custodio Peixoto again rose to the occasion to thwart Cruz Fernandes’ header off a flag-kick taken by Moses D’Sa.
Maina Sports Club didn’t see much off an improvement in the intensity of the game as their action was largely concentrated in midfield.
Maina Sports Club were richer by Rs 30,000 while Chandor Club had to settled for Rs 20,000.
The individual prizes were awarded to first soccer of the final Milagres Fernandes of Maina Sports Club, Best goalkeeper of the final Custodio Gomes of St Anthony’s Sports Club Assolda and Best midfielder of the final Stanley Hadangali of Chandor Club.
MLA Alex Reignaldo Lourenco was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Elvis Gomes, president of Goa Football Association; Schubert Furtado, vice-president of GFA (South) and GFA executive members Anthony Pango, Bishuit Themudo, Arnaldo Costa, Raju Banualikar, John Silva and Anthony Leo Fernandes. In all, 16 teams participated.
