MARGAO: Maina Sports Club made short work of Margao Sports Club 3-1 to set up a finals clash with United Club of Telaulim of SWC Zaino Cup inter-village football on May 25 at Zaino ground, Velim.
Maina SC dominated the match with ample ball possession throughout the match.
Maina SC broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when lanky winger Melvyn Fernandes nodded in off well executed floater taken by Sertorio Fernandes.
Post resumption, Maina SC continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges and ball possessions, however Margao SC stunned everyone when Edgar Noronha scored the equaliser against the run of play.
However, Milagres Fernandes put Maina ahead again through a powerful long range shot. Fernandes soon scored his second to make it 3-1
In the second semi-finals a late strike by Wilton Gomes enabled United Club of Telaulim to overcome St Anthony’s Sports Club, Assolda 1-0. Both the teams adopted attacking mode and had equal number of chances however United Club of Telaulim were well served by former I league club players and asserted the midfield supremacy.
