PANJIM: Maina Sports Club, Maina-Curtorim grounded Socio Cultural Club of Loutolim 3-1 to march into the semi-finals of Mardol Trophy football tournament organized by United Sports Club, Mardol at Mardol ground, Monday. Maina led 1-0 at half time.
Maina started on an attacking note and surged ahead through a penalty. Roque Casmeiro kept his cool and converted the spot-kick.
Stung by the setback, Loutolim regrouped and tried hard in search of the equalizer.
In the second session, Loutolim got their act together and leveled the scores after Jelson Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with an adroit placement.
Then onwards, Maina played good short passes and scored their second in the final quarter through Jameson Noronha.
In the dying minutes, Maina’s Peter Pereira drove the final nail into the rival coffin with a neat finish.
