SARZORA: Margao Sports Club downed Navelim Sporting Club 3-1 to lift the Assumpta Trophy in the final of All-Goa Our Lady of Assumpta inter-village football tournament organised by Sarzora Sports Club, at Sarzora ground, on Sunday.
A fine tricky kick taken by Margao’s Francisco Andrade in the 20th minute fell to Valito Miranda who headed the ball into the goal to open the score-line.
Three minutes later, a fine cross from Margao’s Cliff Barreto was well connected by Francisco Andrade to score the second goal before half-time.
In the 47th minute, John Colaco scored the third goal for Margao.
Navelim Sporting Club pulled a goal back through Pixton Dcosta in the last minute.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 while the runners-up received Rs 30,000 plus trophies.
Churchill Alemao, GFA President and MLA of Benaulim constituency was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Fr Oswald D’Souza, parish priest of Our Lady of Assumption church, Sarzora along with some of the GFA executive committee members and other dignitaries.
