RAIA: Guardian Angel Sports Club edged past Vasco Sports Club 2-1 in the GFA Professional League match, at Raia Panchayat ground, on Wednesday. The teams were locked 1-1 at half time.
Guardian Angel SC took an early lead as Austren Fernandes found Meclon Colaco, who released a powerful grounder for the opener.
Thereafter, Harold Colaco received a quick pass from Ashley Araujo but the goalkeeper of Vasco SC fisted away his effort for a corner kick.
Soon, in the sixth minute, Vasco SC equalized as Sujil’s free-kick hit the goalpost and rebounded and fell in the path of Agnelo D’Souza, who nodded in from close range.
Guardian Angel SC tormented the rival defence but Harold Fernandes and Meclon squandered chances to score goals in the 40th and 43rd minutes.
Change of ends saw Guardian Angels SC enjoying the lion’s share of ball possession with Meclon and Harold firing long rangers.
In the 46th minute, Harold attempted from distance but the Vasco SC custodian was up to the task.
Again, Harold dribbled three Vasco SC defenders Sujil, Sudesh and Varney but his shot was fisted away by goalkeeper of Vasco SC in the 58th minute.
Vasco SC did cause danger in the 60th minute through Chinedu Ejioju but rival defender Ali Kone came up with a timely tackle.
Guardian Angel SC finally doubled their advantage through Meclon in the 79th minute of a supply by Harold Fernandes.
Coach of Guardian Angel SC Riston Rodrigues was a delighted man and expressed happiness after the result. On the other hand, Vasco SC coach, Eban Mesquita was dejected over the upset.
