RAIA: SFX Camarxett scored a solitary goal win over Bandol Sports Club in the inaugural match to move into the quarter-finals of 9-a-side football tournament organised by Sporting Club, Virabhat, at St Alex Church ground, on Monday.
The match started on a slow pace and both the teams tried to take control of the proceedings. But SFX Camarxett had upper hand and James Fernandes powerful left-footer missed the target, while Anthony Peixeto of Bandol SC failed to hit on the target before the half time.
SFX Camarxett scored the all-important goal with the efforts of Melroy, who beautifully tapped the ball over the goalkeeper to land into the net.
In second session, Bandol SC changed their plans and tried to level the score but luck did not favour them.
Maldinho Rodrigues of Bandol SC missed opportunities on many occasions, while Brian Fernandes of SFX Camarxett failed to increase the tally.
Bandol SC goalkeeper Selvino Sequeira was excellent under the crossbar and saved many goal-mouth melee chances and was awarded the man-of-the-match by Curtorim Gymkhana President Savio Fernandes.
