PANJIM: The first edition of Goa Going Pink 2016 organised by Miracle Munj and Vasco Sports Club under the aegis of United Sisters’ Foundation on Sunday at Campal, Panjim, saw an overwhelming response with over 1,200 women participating in the multi-category run of 3 kms, 5 kms and 10 kms run.
Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha flagged off the run in the presence Police Commissioner Priyanka Kashyap, ED Dempo Industries Pallavi Dempo and former supermodel Milind Soman, who is also the founder of Pinkathon and India Going Pink initiative.
Goa Going Pink is under the India Going Pink umbrella and is a model run after the hugely popular and successful Pinkathon, India’s biggest only women’s run conducted across eight cities. This initiative is undertaken to spread awareness in all cities and towns in India to make women adopt healthier lifestyles, have a positive attitude towards life and prevention of breast cancer.
Milind Soman said, “Goa Going Pink is a run only for women. The objective of the event was to encourage women’s health and fitness. It also aims to raise awareness about breast cancer, its causes and prevention.”
To support this initiative, Pinkathon Ambassadors Jayraman Rankawat and Inderpal Khalsa who are ultra-runners ran and national skating champion Rana Uppalapati skated the entire distance of 600 kilometres from Mumbai to Goa from April 6 to 16.
