MARGAO: Mount Mary’s High School, Chinchinim edged past Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose De Areal 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the final to emerge champions in the Sr Bernardine memorial all-Goa 7-a-side Under-17 boys inter-school football tournament played at Perpetual Succour Convent High School ground, Navelim, recently.
The winning team was awarded the rolling trophy along with cash prize, medals and certificates while the runners-up were also awarded a trophy, cash prize, medals and certificates.
The following individual prizes were awarded: Best defender Melroy Colaco (Mount Mary’s High School), highest scorer Larryl Mascarehnas (Bethany Convent High School), best goalkeeper Tennyson Fernandes (Bethany Convent) and best player Ashley Andrade (St Joseph Convent HS, Aquem).
Avertano Furtado, MLA of Navelim Constituency, was the chief guest while Sr Santana Goes, SFN, the headmistress of Perpetual Succour Convent High School was the guest of honour.
All the former teachers of the school were the special invitees. Altogether 16 schools participated. Earlier, Joseph Vaz welcomed the guests.
Sandra D’Cunha, Samason Andrade, Slater Almao and Remmy Rebello were the tournament commentators. Later, Sara Pereira proposed the vote of thanks.
