PANJIM: Mrunal Naik won the under-15 boys chess title at the 3rd annual chess tournament organized by Khandola Chess Club at Shantadurga Verlekarin Devastan hall, Marcela, recently.
Around 73 boys and girls in the U-10, U-15 and general category had participated in the tournament. The tournament was inaugurated by the Headmaster of Saraswati High School, Ishwar Kubal. President of the club, Manoj Naik, formally welcomed the gathering, Pratap Prabhu Gaunkar, Chess Arbiter, explained the rules of the game and Kusha Naik, secretary of the club proposed the vote of thanks.
The winners are as follows: (Boys U-15) Mrunal Naik, Prajot Bhuttewadkar, Yogank V. Odatt. (Girls U-15) Deepti M. Volvoikar, Nikita Parsekar, Nicola N. Menezes. (Boys U-10) Aditya Dicholkar, Neil Dias, Pranav M. Raikar. (Girls U-10) Prajakta Prabhu Gaunker, Mehek S. Bhosle, Nidhi Gaokar. (General Category): Sachin Sawant, Mitra Chodankar, Soham Naik, Amit Naik and Mahesh Raikar.
Tushar S. Kutre and Vishal Giri were awarded encouraging players of the tournament. Rahul Bhartwaj received the most promising player award.
Deepak Dhavalikar, MLA, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
