VASCO, JUNE 10
Nagoa Sporting Club, Bardez stormed into the quarter-finals of 37th Bandodkar memorial football tournament edging out Goa Velha Sports Club by a solitary second half goal at MPT ground on Thursday.
The all-important goal came from the boots of prolific Stanley Coutinho from a quick pass from the left flank by Adnan Baig, who was declared man-of-the match.
Goa Velha, with the exception of midfielder Vishant Pednekar forwards Flanson Rego, Joy Rodrigues and Chatur Naik looked found it difficult to mount an attack.
Earlier in the first half, Nagoa Sporting’s Gaurish Naik placed the ball right in the hands of Goa Velha keeper Valerio Vaz in the 26th minute and two minutes later he blasted over from hand-shaking distance.
After change of ends, substitute Kalpesh Naik and Pradip Chopdekar increased the pace. A combined move initiated from midfield by Pradip Chopdekar saw Adnan Baig moving towards the left flank and sending a crisp cross pass to Stanley Coutinho, who beautifully shot in to the surprise of Goa Velha keeper Valerio. That was in the 44th minute.
Adnan Baig was handed over the man-of-the match award by ex-international striker Prakash Naik of Vasco.
Referee Shekhar Shirodkar flashed the yellow card to Vishant Pednekar of Goa Velha for dangerous tackle.
