CURCHOREM: Navelim Sporting Club emerged champions defeating Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 1-0 in the finals of XIth late Fr. Gervasio Pinto inter-village football tournament, organized by Angels Boys of Curchorem under the auspicious of Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem, at Figueiredo ground, Curchorem, Sunday.
There was no score at the lemon break.
The lone goal of the match came in the 45th minute after Minguel Barreto chipped the ball over the rival goalkeeper to handover the lead to Navelim Sporting Club which proved to be the deciding factor.
Crowed was little disappointed as the proceedings of both the teams were very slow. When Navelim took the lead, the spectators were expecting that DBO would level and the match would finish with penalties but the defenders of Navelim blocked their every move.
Navelim Sporting Club were richer by Rs 30,000 while Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda had to be content with Rs 20,000.

Navelim Sporting Club, Best player of the tournament Melito Fernandes (Guardian Angel SC), First scorer of the finals Minguel Barreto (Navelim SC), First scorer of the tournament Francis Godinho (Panchwadi United SC), best goalkeeper of the tournament Eliston Fernandes (Guardian Angel SC) and Best defender of the tournament Avelino Faleiro (DBO Fatorda).
Kashinath Pawar was the referee and was assisted by Mariano Valladares, Peter Fernandes and Menino Mascarenhas.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Ramesh Tawadkar was the chief guest. GTDC Chairman and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral was the guest of honour and gave away the prizes in the presence of Sarpanch of Sanvordem Panchayat Shashikant Naik, Councillor Rocha Pereira and other dignitaries.
Earlier, Tony Coutinho, President of Angels Boys welcomed and Danny Carvalho, former secretary of Angels Boys of Curchorem, compered and later proposed a vote of thanks.
