SANGUEM: Rossman Cruz Nagoa, Verna emerged winners in the 11th all-Goa inter village football tournament, organised by Uguem Rising Club, at URC ground, Uguem-Sanguem, Sunday.
Rossman scored a solitary goal victory over Dicarpale Sports in an exciting match amidst a huge festive gathering.
With no score coming during the first half of play, both the teams tried their level best to find the net till the last minute. The match started on a very fast pace with both teams dishing a good soccer play which was largely applauded by supporters of both the teams.
Rossman had almost scored in the seventh minute of the match when the Dicarpale keeper appeared to have collected the ball from inside the goal line. However, the referee declined to consider the goal despite several appeals from Rossman Cruz for a goal.
In the second half, Rossman Cruz goalkeeper Franky Abranches saved two direct shots by diving from Charles Colaco and Agnelo Colaco of Dicarpale.
The all-important goal came in the last minute of the match leaving Rossman Cruz supporters go in frenzy after the superb corner kick taken by Martiso Abranches flew directly into the goal beating Dicarpale goalkeeper hands down.
Rossman were awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and a trophy while Dicarpale Sports Club had to content with Rs 20,000 and a trophy.
Martiso Abranches was awarded a special prize for being the first goal scorer of the finals while Samson Furtado of Rossman Cruz was rightly awarded the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
The prizes were distributed by Rakhee Naik, Mahila President of NCP as Yuri Alemao, who was the chief guest could not make it to the finals.
Councillor SMC Queiroz Cruz, panchayat members Francisco Carvalho and Ruby Faria were among others who were present on the dais. Galdino Dias compered.
